That's just nuts!

We have a bumper crop of acorns this year. I always heard that was a sign that a hard winter was ahead, but the meteorologists on TV got all logical and said it was due to the heavy rains last year.

One thing is for sure, the squirrels are happy. I caught these two, and one more that is hiding in the branches, chasing circles around the trunk of an oak tree. They look good and fat now. A big change from last spring when they were looking gaunt and losing tufts of fur. There seems to be about three times as many of them too.

I know the neighborhood terriers enjoy their renewed energy, but they get a pelting of acorns. I can hear the nuts showering down as the squirrels scamper through the top branches of the trees. My Beau is not impressed with squirrels, or cats for that matter. If they look him in the eye, he kind of huffs at them and stamps his front paws so they skitter away, but he would never chase one up a tree and bark at it. Just not his game, thank you!
